New Super Lucky’s Tale - A NEW adventure awaits! Date of Review: December, 19th 2019 Developer: Playful Studios Publisher: Playful Studios Release: November 8th, 2019 Price: $39.99 USD Review Code Provided: Yes The month of code Provided: December During the time Xbox had an event at E3 showing a game that was soon to be released on the Xbox One came out being titled “Super Lucky’s Tale” a 3D platforming game that was developed by Playful Crop. and Published under Microsoft Studios that was inspired by many 3-D platformers as it was known to be the sequel for the VR game “Lucky’s Tale” for the Oculus Rift even though while the Game released on Xbox the gameplay has been described as “ the reminiscent of 90’s 3D platformers” even though while it released they were given upon mixed reviews at the time being, as some criticized how the controls for the camera was “frustrating” and being very sloppy to its mechanics. After 2 years, they announced a port for the Nintendo Switch during the Direct with being Developed by Playful Studios (was Playful Crop.) and published by them as well, even with me seeing the trailer of the game for the very first glimpse it surprised me on how much improvement they changed the game from the previous processor (Super Lucky’s Tale) even though they’re the same game ( I, also want to warn there might be spoilers ahead so slide down quickly from it but if not then let’s continue.. Story of the game itself, etc.. (Warning: Some Spoilers could be Ahead)As the game is, as usual, you meet this hero named “Lucky” a curious brave fox on a quest to find his inner strength and help his sister protect the “Book of Ages”, inside of which exist entire worlds and characters. The game’s antagonist is a cat named “Jinx” (pretty clever name you ask me) and he apparently wants this book so he can use it for his own nefarious purposes. With obstacles and enemies along the way Lucky must confront Jinx's mischievous kids, and all of who lived inside the Book of Ages. But without Lucky's help, they will fall prey to Jinx and into the Kitty Litter's evil machinations. The gameplay itself is so much improved from the Xbox One title, and I’ve somehow enjoyed the exploration of the open world even the music becoming good enough for me wanting to play the music again and again upon the soundtrack it has in store. Even though there isn’t anything “new” to the game it’s such an enjoyable finding experience as you need to find these letters as “L-U-C-K-Y” as they can be tricky to find in certain levels of the game, even though collecting everything is not quite worth the time doing but it’s easy to do in every level which I think is the best for people getting into these type of platformers even though New Super Lucky’s Tale is a huge improvement from the Xbox One version of the game it has some levels and worlds of the game being a huge remix than the original and I like that they pulled something like that but having a good platforming game is adding a challenge to finding certain things, like the letters here which remind me of Donkey Kong Country which you need to find letters in each world to get one hundred percent in the game even collecting all coins or whatnot. My main key for it being good so far is that you need to Explore the world from its lovely environment, and the characters they bring are so adorable. The only issues so far on the game I’ve had was the frame rate drops at certain levels, they’ve dropped severely in certain lighting but didn’t bug me severely till later on, as I hope they eventually release a patch to the game to fix this issue but it’s nonetheless a solid 30FPS in the game even though it’s overly used and long during the loading screens. My favorite mechanic in the game is the Digging as it can be useful to speed through certain levels or finding secrets, and puzzles which are fun to do, and takes much of my time doing it in the world of Super Lucky’s Tale even the Bosses in the game are fun to play in the game, even wanted to add that the subtitles of the characters giving me a Yooka-Laylee and Banjo-Kazooie vibes while playing through aswell. Its 2.5D levels are very enjoyable to play through with the charming visuals and details is something I can’t just have a grin about. Honestly, some levels can become a temple run type game where you feel like you’re doing a endless runner game even though you aren’t, and can be challenging to get the LUCKY letters, and it’s mini-games. The camera is a lot easier to use than the last time even with turning behind Lucky he will do an expression of the joy of seeing the camera pointing towards him. Don’t get me wrong some of the stuff while you wait on the loading screen can make you laugh or have a smile when beginning of your journey. Don’t get me wrong some of the dialogue can be very simple to understand. As the game takes its heavy inspiration from many titles back in the day like Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, etc that takes it limits into being inspired by these faithful classics, even that certain things can be challenging after the post-game and I mean it can be a fun challenging thing to do, as the more you progress the harder it gets is something you can enjoy to easily in this game all the way through its promises. Through all the nonsense Playful Studios has done a fantastic job making a game for something that is a hybrid of a system in a random announcement at a Nintendo Direct, even though it had been trademarked or mentioned before of it coming to the Nintendo Switch, and it is also something for all to enjoy and it is something to be inspired by any classics of the 90s, and even trying it’s best with some authentic music, and it also having a huge overall of a lovely and adorable storylining of how Lucky proves to have his own tale even if he is a small little guy to take on anything behind his way, even though his journey was just the beginning he has a lot to do even with finishing the game there are more ways to get a challenge through your time in this world, plus I really enjoyed the game on the game on the go, If I need to continue where I left off I can do so by taking it on the go and continue what you need to do, so that’s more of why I enjoy the Nintendo Switch, and honestly I would love to see New Super Lucky’s Tale being like this for the Xbox One X and PC version of the game, like seriously instead of it being little bit all of mesh and so many things you could have this to become a simple thing of earning. Don’t get me wrong on here but Playful Studios is awesome enough for letting me review this title on the lovely Switch itself, and honestly you guys get my respect and honor of doing this title with so much charm and love that was worked on this game, it honestly is just something I would replay so many times as it is apparently something else I’ve ever played on the go and taking my time exploring every time feels so good enough to enjoy as I recommend this title even if owning the Switch or being on someone’s Christmas list even with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey for, In my verdict, this is hands down a good platforming title to get for the switch as of date right now. So believe me on that quote here as the game is a great price to play or as a Christmas gift with the entire family. Rating: 9/10 Quote: ”The best platforming game to own on the Switch” Until then everyone.. Game on and happy holidays!
