So let's start that off, shall we? The Development History of Destroy All HumansDuring the time, Destroy All Humans wasn't called what it was.. It was originally conceived by Matt Harding while he was at Pandemic Studios, although Microsoft did deny Matt of an family friendly version game concept titled "Oddballs". Matt Harding then somehow jokingly suggested something like a game "where you kill everyone" coming up to be what is "Destroy All Humans!". Matt was a science fiction fan, even having a thought of using concept playing as an alien invader, something which could be never seen in a video game and to be served as a "premise for getting to do mindless destruction that makes sense". Harding sadly never worked on the game feeling like he lacked the "energy or interest" to spend two years of his life writing a game about killing everything, and even contested why along with the on-foot action in a resemblance of Grand Theft Auto (yes, your reading this right.. GTA, resemblance) where there was flying saucer missions by Harding saying also "If you’ve got a spaceship, why would you ever get out?", although later on pushed for a satirical game, something the rest of Pandemic Studios embraced while working on Destroy All Humans was to bring a comedic approach. Harding later on left on his walkabout to begin recording footage that became to be "Where The Hell Is Matt?" videos. Weirdly enough, Destroy All Humans even sponsored ECW, One Night Stand. When the game did release, Metacritic claimed the media and outlets giving it a "generally positive" and "mixed or average" reviews, even a certain outlet named Maxim claimed the game to be "Set up like Grand Theft Alien, there are tons of missions to complete, though you can also just roam around, killing filthy humans and destroying their stuff". Even after the release in June 2005, Destroy All Humans hit 1 million copies in March of 2006. The games development of Destroy All Humans: RemakeSince years some never expected it to happen, a remake was coming around the corner by the lovely people at THQ Nordic with developers with a team of 60 known as Black Forest Games, came in to work on a remake for this franchises first game, where it all started. Mostly when this remake was being worked on they made sure the original games humor and dialogue remained in tact, though BFG (Black Forest Games) enhanced Destroy All Humans with newer models, cutscenes, and introducing motion capture. They even kept the original audio lines instead of re-recording them, and also improved the music and audio for the remake. Even also adding a mission named "Lost Mission of Area 42" which was scrapped during development of the original game back in 2005, even with Black Forest Games wanting to make sure developing this remake is as an "Original Continuation" of their development of Fade to Silence when they learned more about utilizing it. Enough discussions, it's time to review this remake and see what hold up from the original shall we? The Story (SPOLIERS)We begin the story with a Furon known as Cryptosporidium-136, that was hovering over a launch site with military personnel testing a rocket. The rocket is launched and destroys the ship carrying Crypto-136, and leaves him wounded in the location. Crypto-136 becomes captured by the U.S. Army. Some time later, Cryptosporidium-137 travels to Earth with another Furon named Orthopox-13. Cryptosporidium why they call "Crypto" comes with the intention of rescuing 136, with an Orthopox named "Pox" desires to extract human brain stems for study. Crypto then arrives at Turnipseed Farm in the Southern part of the United States, where Pox mistakes cows as the dominant life-form. The Majestic agency is alerted about an Furon presence when Crypto obliterates an army brigade passing through the area. Pox, speaks with Crypto through a hologram-like device, then reveals to him that the reason he requires human brain stems is because they contain pure Furon D.N.A. handed down to them eons ago, when the Furon's stopped on Earth for a so called word "shore leave" following a war with Mars, which was rendered uninhabitable by an Empire. Controls, Gameplay, etcThe game is very fun and faithful to the original, even adding ways to customize Crypto was a very nice touch, yet knowing the gameplay can interesting part of this game, and free roaming to destroying things is the best part about it also. Even through locations of the game it its very bright and cheerful through the 1950's yet simple, yet some parts of the comedy is nice to see being kept in the original yet can be a hit or miss sometimes. Controls in the most part can be very wonky at first, but get used to it later on, although you can control you altitude but it ain't tied to the camera and aiming controls sadly, even the explosions and all can look very wobbly and blobby? (weird to say but it can at some points of extent), don't get me wrong the game still holds up well to today (Look at Maneater.. It proves it can still). The enemies AI in the game can be well very "Basic" in certain parts, although be swatted can be bad or good, it really depends, just cause some chaos and keep it going cause the fun and it's ways to upgrade with the D.N.A will keep it rolling plus the Cut Missions is an nice addition, but for the final boss.. I recommended to upgrade the saucer and Crypto's Abilities (just trust me), although grinding can be very tedious, and areas can be repetitive too. The game is very faithful, yet with some issues nothing can take down the chaos Crypto can bring..
Rating: 8.0/10 Quote: "A fun remake and faithful to the game from beginning to end". Until then.. GAME ON! -Timothy Stambaugh (Tim/Timothy/Timthegamer12)
