It’s time to get Fueled! Crash Team Racing was of many people’s favorite game during the day, even for them place disk in the PS1 cranking the vol up a notch to hear just right with there controllers ready to roll they had a blast except I never had that chance which can be underwhelming, as for me reviewing this lovely game let us begin with the story on how Crash Team Racing came a thing before we start.. How Crash Team Racing started The game mostly started out as a whole new game where it wasn’t even any crash bandicoot characters at all, with block headed characters and otherwise related personalities. Naughty Dog showed the demo to give interest upon Sony but it came out to where it had more interest being a Crash Themed Kart Racer Which Sony Computer Entertainment (SIE today) agreed on by making a deal with Universal. Crash Team Racing began production after the Completion of Cortex Strikes Back, and the game engine for CTR is also the same engine they used for Crash Bandicoot: Warped. The game even costed around in a budget of 2.4 million bucks to get in development for 8 months. The games characters were designed by Charles Zembillas and Joe Pearson who designed the characters in the other 3 Crash Bandicoot Titles in the Trilogy. Apparently, Nitros Oxide was even originally supposed to be a Mad Scientist having an obsession of speed who plans to speed up the entire world until the end of time. Even with lot of changes they changed Nitros Oxide to be a otherworldly character and a fun fact is that the plot of Speed up the world is referenced to comic of the Winter 2000 issue of “Disney Adventures” even during the games prototypical stage Naughty Dog tested to see if the Crescent Island track from a Diddy Kong Racing (N64) or a track of the same scope was possible on the PS1. Apparently Co-op was having up to 64 Kart Tries in a four player split screen, programmer Greg Omi which apparently even developed a method of changing the camera in two dimensional sprites. The drifting system or the Turbo System that gives player boost of speed during power slides and by gathering hang time which was mostly meant for CTR to feel more advanced and interactive than most kart older Kart racing games. Even Nitros Oxide wasn’t a playable character due to PS1s memory limitations, even Polar and Pura were originally to even ride together on the same Kart and played as even a single character but later was split, and the Komodo Brothers were to appear in the game before Komodo Moe was to be omitted apparently. Even with all the nonsense Crash Team Racing received positive reviews through out and that’s the last time we know Crash until later on being develop by other company’s today and then now with N. Sane Trilogy being released already and now CTR being Remade with the title Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled taking the classic CTR in a whole new way let’s begin the review shall we? Main Menu, etc.As the title screen shows up Crash is looking very surprised holding the trophy waiting for us to start the game as we head into the main menu we have 5 things in total to choose from. Adventure Mode is where we begin the Main Story of Crash Team Racing which sets off about Nitros Oxide he claims to be the fastest racer in the galaxy, and challenges the people on earth to send out the fastest racer in there planet to race him and if they fail he takes them and makes him basically his minions, and make it his own parking lot. It’s up to one of the characters you choose to be fastest and beat Oxide to claim the fastest racer. The difficulty’s in the Adventure is Easy which is meant for new players and not so kart racers to begin to learn the mechanics of it, medium is just the normal CTR as it is but helps the new players get use to it more as I selected this throughout the Mode, and Hard mode is that you literally gotta make sure everything you do is precise in order to take that #1 spot. Basically the story isn’t long at all, and not hard to do so. Also its main objective through is to beat oxide, and become the most fastest racer in the world. Seems fair enough. Local Arcade is literally a local mode kinda like Mario Kart even with a Grand Prix type deal but with more things to do, as the options show Single Race, Cup Race, Battle, Time Trial, Relic Race, CTR Challenge, and Crystal Challenge. Even though Crystal Challenge, Relic Challenge and CTR Challenge is in the Adventure mode too because if you want the good ending, your gonna need them. Mostly the racing modes have many tracks for your optional needs even including the Nitro Kart tracks which are fun to race on with friends local at times. My only complaint so far would be trying to get the wumpa coins in the game which are the way to buy certain things in the game, which is kind a ridiculous of how you gotta be online to earn them.. Also during this time of me reviewing Online Mode was really having issues during my time on this game, it was smooth at times but then later on became so choppy it was unplayable, but when the patch came on games release it was playable and enjoyable again, but its really fun with friends, and if your a master at CTR then show them who’s boss there! Forgot to also add that Grand Prix Mode or whatever it’s likely called is expected to come this July and having many characters to unlock like the Trophy Girls or Tawna, which you may need to gain Nitro to earn more goodies. One thing about the tracks that can be well super underwhelming and not even fun would be the Turbo Tracks as they literally feel useless at the times to use, even the PlayStation Exclusive Track, even though it’s cool being retro and all but why a Turbo track? Well that’s not up to us to figure that out. The pit stop is something kinda like many games do like Destiny 2, Fortnite etc but using micro transactions to purchase the items but instead this game has none, as the only way to get characters or skins for them is to literally play the game to earn coins. So far I purchased Nash, Crunch, and some wheels in the game which is great and not crazy but earning coins in the game can be a totally bummer at some points, as it can go 50-800 sometimes online, and Adventure mode being pretty low arranging up to a low amount or higher (20-60ish). P.S Won’t lie I can’t wait to get some new characters and tracks on the Grand Prix mode this July, even Battle Mode is really fun by the way, also the controls feel like the original! Final Verdict“In overall Beenox did a great job making something that fans loved way back, even now bringing new content as an addition on the field that the classic didn’t have was fantastic even with new ones, and new or never seen characters sliding in soon, as many fans to enjoy this recreation by its full potent” As for the result so far, I’ll give it a solid 9/10 Until then.. GAME ON! -Timthegamer12 Keep updated on twitter!
