A new dawn, new day. What else is new? Title: Call of Duty: Vanguard Platforms: Playstation 4 / 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Battle.net) Prices: $59.99 (Standard), $99.99 (Ultimate Edition) Review Copy Provided: Yes Platform Reviewed: PC Cold War not being the slightest in mind of the Call of Duty series having an interesting story, some bad lines for a certain character (ahem, Woods). with the Multiplayer being a hard toll of maps and excessive matchmaking that really doesn’t play well (obviously). I guess this time around Sledgehammer is coming in hot with something new and exciting for the series (I hope). Now, Call of Duty: Vanguard takes a different toll in the Call of Duty franchise, more less than expected. Taking a different route from many angles, even the pattern itself weirdly enough. Vanguard tries hard enough to open the holy gates of why if it even was a good being well.. No, in most cases, the game has plenty of modes to offer; Story Mode, Multiplayer and.. Zombies? Why again with this nonsense, when the previous game only had one map. Ok, then.. Let’s start with the campaign, and continue on forward shall we here cause I will let it speak for itself. The Campaign (WARNING: May have little spoilers.)“Wow it’s World War 2.. Again.. But somehow better.” It seems in Vanguard we are pictured into the timeline of World War 2 again, but in it’s own take of things, mostly beginning where we are in a ship to obtain vital Axis military intelligence stemming from some kind of code called “Project Phoenix” before being smuggled out of Germany. The story gets quite interesting when we take places of certain characters and they are named; on each timeline of locations fighting in D-Day and certain areas as Arthur Kingsley In the Jungles against the Japanese, or the Plane attacks during the Pearl Harbor events as Wade Jackson, leading the US to war with the Japanese, even also witness a experience of a bad-ass sniper named Polina Petrova who has been a normal nurse for her own country and all of suddenly lose everything by the Nazi’s except her fathers sniper that she uses to take out any foe that stand between her, and built to where she is now to make her own vengeance in this game. Mostly through the Campaign, I think it is probably the best thing I’ve seen in the series and I can not stop playing it over and over, it’s like a movie you love and can’t stop just enjoying every second of it all. Although, the one issue is just having the story start up super slow in the pacing in the beginning but once you finish that it goes on smooth sailing right then and there (do not worry I played in Hardened difficulty!). I think the artists, and directors plus writers deserve a big raise for attention to the story’s direction. Everything about it was just awesome to play through, in many distinctive ways, even the visualizations of the combat through and through kept me playing for countless hours in the campaign, kudos to them bringing such a pivotal moment in each angle to make interesting stories of each character in how they became who they are now in the campaign on the frontlines in Vanguard even the ideas in it just sparked well. Multiplayer, etc“The world is out there for you to cause.. CHAOS!” Multiplayer has about the same modes and things like Cold War, and a feeling of Operators and Selections like the previous games. Although, in Vanguard it seems they took it up a notch in the multiplayer modes and it’s a big noticeable change they added through their time in it, by the gameplay wise of it, I believe that it’s looking to be more easy going in using a weapon in combat yet some parts feel bugged in using a stem pack, etc. Specific Weapons in the game do feel very overpowered in some instances leaving some players who don’t have it unlocked feel less confident in being able to beat an enemy against their skill type, yet the more you learn the better you become in the multiplayer world, so do note that. Multiplayer has some good adjectives of bringing loads of multiplayer maps in some instances, even big ones, yet I would love more smaller and co-operative maps to bring in the intention to have players call out more often in combat, helping players become more intentional in knowing how to survive, although I do wish they added War Mode where it’s in their own taste of gameplay although having Free for All, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Patrol, Hardpoint and Champion Hill is better then nothing but hey, Champion Hill is a fun mode so do check it out. Multiplayer is balanced in most angles. FYI: Also, aim assist in the game isn’t the best so best to work around it to fix it, as I do recommend some content creators who do have ways on changing it around helps a lot. Controls are not terrible at all, I did play with the Dual sense controller and I really enjoyed the way it changes gameplay while aiming and shooting a weapon but it didn’t feel as good like Cold War in any way though. The game is a lot more optimized on PC than Cold War for sure, and that’s hopefully good news for some! Zombies“Zombies outside near my footsteps..” Ok, personally I get the situation of Cold Wars zombies in many instances even though it got better later on with updates, but doing it again in Vanguard makes me feel confused. Confused of how there is only one map, hardly many instance to upgrade and lot of deja-vu feelings of Gambit in Destiny 2 but yet instead of placing motes to invade, you pick up runes to continue forward and teleport to different locations except it’s different to it and yet feels the same just zombified and not attacking guardians but zombies (ok you all get my point lol). Zombies feels very empty, and I hate saying that for many modes of a game, and this does like it did in the Cold War when it was first released then improved later on. I personally, think this has to be stopped and not happen like this because having no content to continue forward in Zombies is not a good thing, we have to make proposals to improve a mode and not leave it hanging, yet Multiplayer having to tower it here is a sad moment to see. I personally think the Campaign towers Multiplayer and Zombies here in many instances, yet Multiplayer saved little angles of this, personally I mostly would stay with Modern Warfare for Multiplayer content and Black Ops 3 with the Chronicles DLC for some amazing Zombies content it has to offer. Nonetheless they really tried and don’t get me wrong the map for Zombies in the game is great, and has good narratives and motivations, just still feels empty with one map in general, plus it leaves bad replay-ability for this mode in general. Hopefully, the updates later on fixes some parts of adding at least more maps for Zombies, etc. VERDICTVanguard may have the most interesting campaigns of all and decent multiplayer, but Zombies really made it let down in some ways.
I still really enjoyed the game, yet Vanguard isn’t a bad or good game. Vanguard definitely was saved by the intentions of the Story Mode and I loved every second of it, I think it towers over the Cold War campaign, etc. It's even about almost up with Modern Warfare just by an inch for Vanguard. I also do recommend this game if you're all in for a multiplayer and innovative campaign, just don’t recommend it if you're only getting it for the Zombies mode. Quote: “Vanguard brings an innovative campaign and multiplayer that brings you back in over and over” Rating: 8.5/10 Pros: Innovative Campaign Balanced Multiplayer Cons: Zombies having hardly any content like Cold War on Launch Slow start in Campaign Until then.. GAME ON! -Timothy Stambaugh (Tim/Timothy, TimTheGamer12).
